Hypertension, commonly known as High Blood pressure is very common. Those who suffer from hypertension often take life long medications for controlling BP. But, there are a certain group of BP medications that may be silently and gradually causing gum enlargement and swelling, which we are not aware of, until one fine day, when the gums appear extremely swollen and enlarged. Those who are on long term BP medications for hypertension, epilepsy (fits) and on immunosuppresants, must be aware of the side effect they can cause, especially when the oral hygiene is poor. This picture shows gum enlargement resulting in aesthetic disfigurement and embarrassment to the patient caused due to poor oral hygiene as well as the BP medication. The BP medication was identified as the culprit and was changed. The patient was treated for the same and a new confidence was instilled with a new smile.
